Welcome to Wiidare, Legal Business Partner Daniel Villarreal

Drawing on nearly twenty years of experience in both in-house and advisory capacities, Daniel will advise our clients on a broad range of transactional, investment, and corporate matters. His experience spans M&A, real estate transactions, financing rounds, and fund-related work.

Daniel has extensive expertise in corporate and contract law, and he provides strategic advice on governance, commercial arrangements, and other business-critical legal matters.

Daniel’s experience from both in-house and private practice environments enables him to bridge legal and business considerations, helping clients navigate complex transactions and strategic decisions with confidence.

Daniel, could you briefly tell us about yourself and your background in the legal profession?

Many years ago, on a whim, I picked up the entrance exam books for law school and realized that this was something I could actually see myself doing professionally.

I got my first real exposure to legal work nearly twenty years ago at KONE, where I secured a traineeship position and had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Since graduating, I have worked in a variety of in-house legal roles as well as at large law firms, so I would describe myself as a legal generalist with broad experience across different areas of law.

For the past ten years, I have focused primarily on transactions and investment-related legal matters, advising on a wide range of corporate and commercial arrangements.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Approachable, professional, and always respectful.

What made you interested in joining Wiidare?

The fact that Wiidare is founded and run by lawyers with in-house backgrounds. One of the weaknesses I have often seen in the legal industry is that legal services are primarily provided by lawyers who have never worked on the client’s side. Wiidare brings a different perspective.

A particularly memorable experience from your career?

While the best stories are protected by attorney-client privilege, I can share one memorable experience involving a client who made a remarkably decisive call.

We had spent six months negotiating a significant transaction. At the signing table, the foreign buyer unexpectedly backed away from a compromise that had taken weeks to negotiate. Our client made it clear that the issue was a deal breaker for them, but the buyer refused to budge.

We stepped into a separate meeting room with the client, who picked up the phone. After just a few calls, they had assembled a consortium of investors and secured a preliminary indication of interest. The transaction was called off with the foreign buyer.

Later, I learned that the buyer had assumed our client would not be prepared to abandon the deal and it was why they attempted a last-minute squeeze at the signing table. What made the story even better was that the transaction was ultimately completed with the very investors the client called during that 15-minute break!

What makes Wiidare an exceptional partner?

The people, and the combination of in-house and private practice experience. The culture and people at Wiidare are fantastic. I hope that never changes.

Tell us something your colleagues do not yet know about you.

I competed in weightlifting for ten years. Nowadays, my exercise routine is much lighter and mostly revolves around following my children’s sports activities. My passion for music, however, continues. I play the guitar in a metal band.

If you were not a lawyer, what would you be?

An architect.
